Dezzie Baker

Dezzie Jane Baker, of Rockford departed this earthly life Monday, January 6, 2014 at Rockford Memorial Hospital after a short illness. She was born February 8, 1943 in Elkmont, Alabama the daughter of Robert and Mary Horton. Dezzie lived in Rockford since 1958 coming from Alabama. She was employed as a dietician by The Mill Group Home before retiring. Dezzie was a member of St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church. She attended Trinity High School in Athens, AL. Dezzie leaves to cherish many memories, her son, Derrick (Tracey) Baker, five grandchildren; four brothers, John (Mary) Malone, Jr., Ervin (Linda Sue) Malone, Rev. Louis (Sharon) Malone and Milton Lee Malone Sr.; three sisters, Geraldine (Willie) Green, Josie Mae Malone, and Deloise (Richard) Martin; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, son, Steve Horton and daughter Victoria Baker. Services will be held 11:00a.m. Saturday, January 11, 2014 at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church 2919 19th Street burial in Cedar Bluff Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00a.m. until the time of service. Arrangements completed by Carl E. Ponds Funeral Home 2429 W. State Street.
