Robert L. Adkins age 79 of Winfield, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2014 at his home with his loving family by his side. Born in Winfield, Tennessee on December 16, 1934, he was the son of the late Francis and Bessie Adkins.
Robert was a member of the Pleasant Grove United Baptist Church, a United States Army Veteran and served in the Korean War. He enjoyed working with wood and was a talented cabinet maker.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Jean Linger and Jo Ann Thompson; brothers Philip and Haven Adkins.
Survived by his daughter Cyndi White and husband Randy of Oneida; sister Shirley McCreary of Astor, Florida; brother-in-law Roy Thompson; two grandchildren Luke Robert and Cydney Celeste White of Oneida; nephews Mike Meadors of Jacksonville, Florida, Doug Linger of Georgetown, Kentucky, Harvey Chitwood and Travis Chitwood of Oneida; niece Bonnie Beckman of Cincinnati, Ohio; close cousin Norman Chitwood and wife Ann; special friend Greg Stephens; many other relatives and friends. Special thanks to Bill and Cathy White for the special care he was given during his final days.
Friends may visit with the Adkins family on Thursday, January 9, 2014 from 6 p.m. until time of the funeral service at 8 p.m. in the chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home with Bro. Gary Campbell and Bro. Robert Blakenship officiating. Graveside service will be on Friday, January 10, 2014 at 1 p.m. in the Adkins Cemetery with full military honors provided by the American Legion Post # 136 of Oneida. Serving as pallbearers will be Norman Chitwood, Kelly Adkins, Bill White, Luke White, Mike Meadors, Harvey Chitwood, Travis Chitwood, Stormy McDonald and Greg Stephens.
