CHICOPEE – James William Hafey, 90, passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2014. He was born in Chicopee on October 2, 1923, the son of the late James E. and Margaret (Houlihan) Hafey. Jim was raised and educated in Chicopee, graduated from Cathedral High School in Springfield and received his bachelors degree from Saint Mary’s College in Emmitsburg, MD. He also attended Georgetown Law School and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was proud to have served his country as a member of the U. S. Navy during World War II stationed on the US Navy Liberty Ship as a gunner. He spent most of his adult life in Bethesda and Potomac, MD. He worked for United Mine Workers, Catholic War Veterans, AMVETS and retired from the Veterans’ Administration Services. Jim is survived by two sons, James and Christopher, a daughter, Carol, two granddaughters, Elizabeth and Victoria. He was predeceased by his son Stephen and a sister, Therese M. Corridan. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at the Corridan Funeral Home, 333 Springfield St., Chicopee from 3 to 6 p.m. Family and friends are invited to gather on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 in the Chapel at Our Lady of the Elms College, 291 Springfield St., Chicopee for the celebration of the Funeral Mass which will begin at 10:30. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Chicopee.
