Ellen H. Blake

Ellen H. Blake, 91 of Colfax, IN., formerly of the Dekalb and Sycamore area, died Sunday, December 29, 2013 at the Mulberry Health and Retirement Community in Indiana.

She was born June 13, 1922 in Canada. The daughter of Frank and Lyda (Fuller) McDermott. She married Wendell Blake in Dec. of 1960.

Ellen and her husband were the owner's of the McCabe Lounge in DeKalb for many years, until they retired to California. Ellen loved the outdoors, gardening, planting beautiful flowers, cooking and especially playing Bingo. She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ellen was a life-long resident of the DeKalb County area and was a member of St. Mary Churches in DeKalb and Sycamore.

Survivors include her 2 children, Sharon (Richard) Luper and Bill (Phyllis) Kozuch, all of Colfax, IN.; 6 grandchildren, Lori (Michael) Swedberg and Sherri (Patrick) O'Donnell, all of Sycamore, Jane (Tom) Anderson of San Benito, TX, Brian (Cecilia) Kozuch, Scott Kozuch and Chad (Stephanie) Kozuch, all of IN.; 9 great grandchildren, James (Jessie) Swedberg of Sycamore,Sharon (Omar) Ordaz, of Cortland, Nicole and Tony O'Donnell, both of Sycamore, Alison, Bryn and Kyler Kozuch, all of IN, Lauren Anderson of Sycamore and Blake Anderson of TX.; 4 great great grandchildren, Luther and Andrew Swedberg, Owen Ordaz and Alex Anderson; one brother, Fr. Neal McDermott of New Orleans; one sister, Pat Hosea of CA.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wendell; her parents; 2 brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, Jan. 11th from 10:00-11:30 AM at the Butala Funeral Home and Crematory in Sycamore. A Mass of the Resurrection will begin at 12:00 PM on Sat. at the Church of St. Mary, 244 Waterman St., in Sycamore, with Fr. Paul Lipinski officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Mary Cemetery in DeKalb.
