PAUL HARTZ

U.S. Veteran

Paul J. Hartz, 97, of White Haven, died Wednesday morning, January 1, 2014, at the home of his son, Breinigsville, PA.

Born in Weatherly, he was the son of the late Herbert and Mary E. Mack Hartz. He was a graduate of Weatherly High School. He served as a corporal in the United States Army during World War II, fought in the Battle of the Bulge where he was captured and spent 1 year as a POW in a German prison camp. He was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Service Medal, EAME Theater Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars and the Victory Medal.

Prior to retiring, he was employed by Ingersoll Rand as a machinist. Paul was a member of the United Methodist Church of White Haven, past president of Weatherly Senior Group and other civic and religious organizations.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene Kindred Hartz; grandson, Joshua Hartz and 8 brothers and sisters.

Paul is survived by children, Thomas Hartz and wife Cynthia, Breinigsville; Jeffrey Hartz, Schnecksville; Yvonne Prest, Easton; Sallie Hlavac, Bath; 7 grandchildren, Bethann, Brian, Kellen, Kristie, Kory, Keri, Jessica; 8 great grandchildren, Samantha, Sari, Sonia, Emily, Kate, Brynn, Brooke, Alana; long time dear friend, Nancy Hassel and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be conducted Monday, January 6, 2014, at 11:00 am from the Lehman Family Funeral Service, Inc. 403 Berwick Street, White Haven. Interment will follow in Laurel Cemetery, White Haven.

Friends may call Monday from 10:00 am until time of service.
