Vernon Chester Coy, 80, Huntington, IN passed away on 11:28 pm Monday, December 30, 2013 at Lutheran Hospital Fort Wayne, IN. Mr. Coy was born September 3, 1933 in Phoenix, AZ to Earl and Laura Etta Engle Coy. His parents preceded him in death. He married Peggy Ann Hollopeter on October 19, 1963 in Sims, IN. She preceded him in death on October 5, 2009.
Mr. Coy was a 1956 graduate of Purdue University and received his Master Degree from Ball State University. Mr. Coy was a teacher for Huntington County Community School Corporation for more than 30 years. He taught at Union, Huntington North High School, and Crestview as a math and science teacher. He continued tutoring in Huntington after his retirement.
Mr. Coy served in the US Army from 1956-1958 based in Alaska. Mr. Coy was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, Huntington, IN, Indiana State Teacher Association, National Education Association, Huntington County Teacher Association and Indiana Retired Teacher Association.
Surviving are; one daughter, Laura Spaulding, Sarasota, FL; three sons, David Edward (Sherry) Coy, Buffalo, NY, Brian R. Coy, New Castle, IN, Rev. Paul E. J. (Rita) Coy, Jacksonville, FL; three grandchildren, Christina Gonzalez, Angela Coy and Carmelita Coy.
Along with his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one daughter, Teresa Lynn Coy; one grandchild, Conner Spaulding; two half-sisters, Rachael Hoffman and Willetta Berwager.
Calling will be Friday, January 3, 2014 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the First Church of the Nazarene 1555 Flaxmill Rd. Huntington, IN 46750. Funeral services will be Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 10:00 am (There will be calling 1 hour prior to service) all at First Church of the Nazarene, 1555 Flaxmill Rd., Huntington, IN with Pastor Keith White officiating.
Burial will be in the St. Peter's First Community Church Cemetery, Huntington, IN.
