Phillip N Henri, age 86, of Ashland, Wisconsin, formerly of Mellen and Highbridge, Wisconsin, passed away on Friday, December 30, 2013, at the Ashland Health and Rehabilitation Center, in Ashland.
Phil was born on December 18, 1927, in Mellen, the son of Phillip and Mercie (Grimes) Henri. He was a graduate of Mellen High School. Phil served 27 years in military service: Enlisting in the Navy in 1944, serving in the South Pacific and moving to the Airforce in 1951, retiring at as a chief Master Sergeant. He worked for the Mellen veneer plant, NSP and DNR. He was active in sports: playing ball all over the world, baseball and fast pitch softball, he played football for Northland College, and enjoyed bowling and golf. He was a New York Yankees fan, but is probably most recently known for umpiring in the area.
Phil is survived by his wife, Mary; and his three sons: Michael (Teresa ‘Terri’), Robert (Laurie), and Phillip (Vickie Chingo), all of Ashland. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Sheldon (Miranda), Derrick, Sheena (Ralph) Cupelli, Heather (Aaron) Faulkner, Jesse, Mindy (Aaron) Schutte, and Klyssa; many great grandchildren; his brother Charles (Wilma), of Bellevue, Nebraska; many nieces and nephews.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, James and Clarence.
A gathering for family and friends will be held at the Mountain Funeral Home, in Ashland, beginning at 9 a.m., Saturday, January 4, 2014, and continuing until the hour of the service.
A memorial service, for Phil will be held at the Mountain Funeral Home, in Ashland, at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 4, 2014. Reverend James Imse will officiate.
Interment in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Highbridge, will take place at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 24, 2014.
