Carlos Almendarez, Sr., age 80, of Imlay City, MI passed away after an extended illness Monday, December 23, 2013 at his home. Carlos was born December 20, 1933 in Edinburg, Texas. He grew up in Texas. Life moved him from Texas to North Dakota to Michigan. He was married to Juvencia "Paula" Palacios on May 25, 1956 in Fargo, North Dakota. "Paula" died on June 18, 2001. He had been employed by Gerrit Groenewoud to work in Excavation & Construction. They worked as sub-contractors doing underground construction and laying cable for Michigan Bell Telephone Co. out of the Flint office. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Imlay City. Surviving are his daughter: Connie (& Stephen) Van Norman of Romulus Michigan; his son: Carlos Almendarez, Jr. of Imlay City; five grandchildren: Taylor Van Norman, Diane Almendarez, Stephen Almendarez, Jennette Almendarez, and Anita Almendarez; brothers: Raymond Almendarez, Victor Almendarez, and Luciano Almendarez; sisters-in-law: Maria Boyne, Angie Parrish, Henrietta Villanueva, and Leonor Palacios. He was preceded in death by his wife: Juvencia Almendarez; a brother: Pete Almendarez; and a sister: Maria Morales. Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 am Friday, December 27, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Imlay City. Reverend Father Paul Ward will officiate.. Burial wil follow in Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Imlay City. The family will be available for visiting 10 - 11 am Friday, December 27, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Imlay City. Funeral arrangements have been made with Muir Brothers Funeral Home, 225 Main Street, Imlay City, MI.
