Mr. Herman K. Hancock, Sr. of Geneva passed away Dec. 16, 2013. He was 81. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013 at Maple Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. Mike Shirah officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Pittman Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends prior to the service Wednesday beginning at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Maple Avenue Baptist Church Building Fund, 1009 W. Maple Avenue, Geneva, AL 36340.
Mr. Hancock was born in Darlington, SC on May 4, 1932 to the late Judson and Algie Holland Hancock. He was a member of Maple Avenue Baptist Church for more than 50 years. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. After the war he worked as an aircraft inspector at Ft. Rucker where he retired after 40 years. He was a lifetime member of Geneva Masonic Lodge #129. He was preceded in death by his brother, Billy Hancock; and sister, Myrtle Morris.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Frances Riley Hancock; two sons, Herman Keith Hancock, Jr. (Jo) of Montgomery, and Kevin Hancock (Jessica) of Brantley; daughter, Kay Jones (Vince) of Geneva; seven grandchildren, Tarra Wurst (Tony) of Lynn Haven, Fla., Brooke Wascher (Jon) of Montgomery, Alexandra Hancock Sutton (Jonathan) of Philadelphia, PA, Kady Jones and Kanon Jones, both of Geneva, and Justin Eiland and Jonathan Eiland, both of Brantley; three great grandchildren, Anna Wascher of Montgomery, and Aubrey Roach and Ethan Roach, both of Lynn Haven, Fla.; sister, Silvia Skipper of Camden, SC; and brother, Otis Hancock of Darlington, SC.
