Went to be with the Lord on December 12, 2013. Elvis was born on October 29, 1940, in Camden, Tennessee, the son of Walter and Lottie (Goodman) Hardin. On November 27, 1965, he married Patricia “Pat” A. Townsend and she survives. In 1993, he retired from General Motors, Willow Run Plant in Ypsilanti after nearly 33 years of service to the company. Elvis was also a member of the Berean Baptist Church in Social Circle, Georgia. Survivors besides his wife of 48 years include his three daughters: Denise Pepper of Camden, TN., Michelle (Marty) Beckett of Chelsea, MI., and Marci (Eric) Simpson of Ypsilanti, MI.; ten beloved grandchildren: 6 beautiful great grandchildren; three sisters: Sue (Charles) Taylor, Nell (Ted) Ferguson and Pam (Orville) Cline; one brother: Bobby (Jan) Hardin; mother-in-law: Margaret Murray; a special aunt: Virginia Cochran as well as nieces, nephews, in-laws and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son: Brian Hardin; one son-in-law: Randy Pepper. The family will receive friends at Janowiak Funeral Home in Ypsilanti from 10:30am until the time of his funeral service at 1:00pm on Tuesday, December 17, 2013, with Donnie Townsend and Gary Peters co-officiating. Burial will follow at Washtenong Memorial Park in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
