Jaunita Cotton

Sunrise for Juanita Lestine Cotton was March 2, 1924 in Harris, Oklahoma. Sunset was on December 9, 2013 at the age of 89.

Juanita Cotton's life was a life of service. She was involved in community services such as: Veteran’s of Foreign Wars Volunteer, PTA (during the time that her children attended school), and IMAC. As an active church member, Juanita served as president of the Missionary Society, and superintendent of Sunday School for many years. When ever called upon, She faithfully fulfilled her duties to her church family and enjoyed doing so. Juanita also served as Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star for many years.

Her greatest joy was baking sweet potato pies, peach cobblers, and tea cakes for family and friends who were always eager to sample the delicious desserts. Another past time Juanita enjoyed was quilt making for family members.

Juanita grew up in Harris, Oklahoma and attended school in the Harris and Idabel Public School system. She enjoyed her school days and became an avid basketball player. When Juanita moved to Idabel, she continued her career as a nurse’s aide at McCurtain Memorial Hospital and later became a Nurse’s Aide at Dr. Thomas Howard’s medical office.
