Loving Husband, Father and Grandfather

Mr. Joseph F. Filippone, age 87, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 9, 2013 at Waterbury Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Violet (Massaro) Filippone.

Joseph was born in Waterbury, CT on September 9, 1926 son of the late Alphonse and Italia (Oricchio) Filippone and was a proud U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a maintenance supervisor for Northeast Transportation for 28 years, retiring in 1992 and was a communicant of St. Lucy Church. He was a member of the Favale Generali Club. Joe enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He especially enjoyed visiting the Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Casinos and his weekly Friday night card games with friends. He was a big college basketball fan and NY Yankee fan.

Joseph is survived by two sons, Joseph Filippone and his wife, Peggy of Florida, Michael Filippone and his wife, Jennifer of Wolcott, two daughters, Janice Plocha and her husband, Edward of Thomaston, Debra Martin of Waterbury, six grandchildren, Jonathan Martin and his wife, Sonja, Christine Plocha and her fiancé, Wilford Levy and their two children, Tyrese and Skyla Levy, Joelle Filippone-Greaves and her husband, Sheldon, JB, Joe and Julianne Filippone, one sister, Gloria Peschell of Orange, sister-in-law, Carmeline Filippone, brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Margie Massaro of Waterbury, sisters-in-law, Theresa Pilloise, Jane Massaro and Vera Massaro all of Wolcott as well as several nieces, nephews and longtime friends, Edie Sica and Eleanor Mori of Wolcott. He was predeceased by his brother, Harry Filippone.

Arrangements: Funeral will be held Friday at 9:00 a.m. from the Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, CT to St. Lucy Church for a Mass at 10:00 a.m. Entombment with Full Military Honors will follow at the Calvary Cemetery Garden Mausoleum. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
