Barbara Long

Barbara Daniel Long grew up in Del Rio. She was the daughter of Charles N. and Leona Daniel. She graduated from Del Rio High School in 1938 and went on to attend the University of Texas. She returned to Del Rio and was employed by S.W. Buchanan and then Laughlin Air Force Base. She met and married, in 1949, Roy J. Long when he was in the area working for Phillips Oil Co. They were shortly transferred to Uvalde, then San Angelo, Pauls Valley, OK, and finally settled in Shidler, OK. Barbara enjoyed oil painting, sewing, and stitchery and won numerous awards at art shows in Ponca City, OK. She is survived by her son Mark Long and wife Debra Jean of Fairbanks, Alaska; Sister: Betty Ann Hollingsworth of Del Rio; Niece: Julieann Townsend and husband Albert of Uvalde; Nephew: Jody Abb Hollingsworth of Del Rio; Grand Nephew: Trey & Tonya Abel and their children Shelby and William of Friendswood, TX; Grand Nephew: Pastor Heath Abel, his wife, Dr Erica Abel, and their children, Alex and Ellie of Temple, TX; and Garrett and Morgan Hollingsworth of Del Rio. She was preceded in death by her Husband, Roy. Barbara has been in Del Rio the past three and a half years and has enjoyed her stay at Country Place Living and she passed away in their memory care facility. The family would like to thank the staff (too numerous to list) for their loving and dedicated attention to her needs. We would also like to thank the Hospice staff for their excellent care as well. Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2013, 10:30 a.m. at Westlawn Cemetery with Pastor Heath Abel officiating. Following the service, the family lovingly invites you to lunch with them at Country Place Assisted Living, 1088 Amistad Blvd. which had been Barbara’s home ever since it opened.
