William “Bill” Ferrell Armstong, 70, of Franklin died Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, at his residence. Born Nov. 25, 1943, in Baltimore, MD, he was a son of the late George Siegfred and Alma Beatrice Coleman Hatfield Armstrong.
Mr. Armstrong was a 1961 graduate of Collins High School in Oak Hill. He was employed by the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources for 20 years as a conservation officer and by the US Army for 22 years as a special agent federal game warden in Aberdeen Prooving Ground, Aberdeen, MD. He was a veteran of the US Air Force.He was a member of the Walnut Street United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge #144 AF & AM, Franklin Lions Club, Franklin Moose Lodge 769, American Legion, Wild Turkey Federation, VFW Auxiliary and president of Potomac Highlands Wounded Warrior Outreach.
His wife, Diana Lee Thomas Armstrong, whom he married April 7, 1967, survives. Also surviving are one son, Thomas Michael Armstrong of Baltimore, MD; two sisters, Margaret Lucinda Clendenin and husband, Dennis of Sissonville, and Beatrice Ann Dotson and husband, Martin of South Charleston; and one brother, George C. Armstrong and wife, Sheila of Fort Seybert. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Basagic Funeral Home, Franklin. At 7 p.m. funeral services will be conducted with Pastor Robert Anderson officiating. A graveside service will be held Friday at 3 p.m. at the Graceland Memorial Cemetery at Ruth, near South Charleston, with military and Masonic graveside services.
