Ellis “Ace” Baylander, age 75 of Belvidere, IL, passed away Saturday, December 7, 2013 at home. He was born October 28, 1938, the son of the late Edmund and Clara (Pearson) Baylander. He was a 1956 graduate of Belvidere High School. Ellis married Jenifer Nelson on June 26, 1965 in Rockford, IL.
He had served in the United States Army and was stationed in Okinawa. He retired from the Belvidere Police Department with the rank of Captain after 30 years of service. He was a member of the 1956 Belvidere Bucs Baseball State Playoff Team, the Belstone Club, and a lifetime member of the Illinois Police Association. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, trap shooting, and photography. He was another disappointed Cubs fan. He loved country music and his two dogs, General & Kora.
Ellis is survived by his wife, Jenifer; two sons, Greg (Jaclyn) of Winnebago, IL and Derek of Belvidere; special nieces, Dawn Brinkmeyer and Becky Develieger; great nephew, Joe Brinkmeyer; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Frances Toomey.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at 6:00 PM at the Belvidere Funeral Home. There will be a visitation before the service from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. A memorial fund has been established. Condolences may be shared with his family at www.belviderefh.com.
