OBITUARY Robert H. Nunnally, BSM, MD, FAAFP (August 2, 1933 - December 05, 2013) Dr. Robert H. Nunnally was born August 2, 1933, at Lester, AR., to William J. Nunnally and Marie (Bartlett) Nunnally. He attended schools at Rayville, Louisiana, Chidester, and Camden. In his Camden High School Class of 1951, Dr. Nunnally was Co-Valedictorian. Dr. Nunnally attended Tulane University, New Orleans, Louisiana, for three years as a chemistry major premed. In his third year, he was accepted as a medical student at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. In his second year there, he was accepted into the USAF Jr. - Sr. Medical Student Program.

At Little Rock, Dr. Nunnally received B.S.M. and M.D. degrees from UAMS. He interned at USAF Hospital, Lackland (Wilford Hall A. F. Hospital.) For 7 years he served on active duty with the USAF. In 1957 Dr. Nunnally and his high school classmate, Ruth Anne Geddie, were married. After separation from the USAF, Dr. Nunnally worked at the Sparkman Clinic for 6 months before moving his practice to Gurdon, for eleven years, and then to Ouachita Clinic in Camden. He was a life member of the Arkansas Medical Society, A.M.A. and Arkansas Academy of Family Physicians. He was a charter diplomat of the American Board of Family Practice and a FELLOW OF THE AMERICAN ACADEMY OF FAMILY PHYSICIANS, and also a Diplomat of the National Board of Medical Examiners. As a retired reserve, Dr. Nunnally was a Lt. Colonel in the USAF (MC). Having been appointed by Gov. Mike Huckabee, he served 7 years on the ARKANSAS WATERWAYS COMMISSION. In 1998, Dr. Nunnally was chosen THE HUSSMAN CAMDEN MAN OF THE YEAR. He served several terms as CHIEF OF STAFF OF THE OUACHITA COUNTY MEDICAL CENTER. Dr. Nunnally’s wife of 48 years, Anne, died of cancer in 2005. Together, they had three children: Robert H. Nunnally, Jr., Bruce Wayne Nunnally, and Shanna Marie Nunnally Berry. He married Virginia Knight in 2006. He first joined the Methodist Church at Douglasville, Arkansas, with the Rev. John Butler Hayes, as pastor. Since that early time in his life, he has maintained a strong belief in God. As a member of First United Methodist Church, Camden, Dr. Nunnally has served on numerous boards and committees. For many years, he enjoyed singing in the MEN’S CHOIR. Dr. Nunnally was a life-long student. Having had poor math preparation in the Arkansas Public School Systems, he advocated math studies for all students as a way to gain a tool for achieving success in any endeavor.

Dr. Nunnally was preceded in death by his grandson, William Wakefield Nunnally. He is survived by his wife of eight years, Virginia Knight Nunnally; two sons, Robert Howard Nunnally, Jr., and spouse, Merrill Nunnally; and Bruce Wayne Nunnally and spouse, Ann Nunnally; a daughter, Shanna Marie Berry and spouse Les Berry Sr. A stepdaughter, Suzanne Knight; a stepson, Joseph Earl Knight, Jr.; Also surviving are two grandsons, Andrew Cameron Nunnally and Charles Robert Reed Jr.; and one granddaughter, Madison Geddie Reed. In lieu of Flowers, Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church or Ouachita County Medical Center – Hospice

A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday the 10th of December, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church in Camden, AR. Proctor Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements.
