Arthur Henry Bonnier, 83, passed away quietly at his home with his loving family around him on Tuesday, December 3, 2013.
He was born in Hightstown, NJ on February 17, 1930, son of Albert and Eva (Bollenger) Bonnier. Art spent his early school years in Chester and Essex and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Middletown in 1948. He loved his sports and played football, baseball and was a member of the 1st American Legion team in Middletown. Pre-College he joined the Marine Corps and was sent to Korea during the Korean War, with the 5th regiment of the 1st Marine division. Upon returning to civilian life, Art married his beloved wife Jean (Kensel). He retired from Raymond Engineering after 33 years.
Art had many interests including his love of sports, refereeing lacrosse and football, sailing, swimming and hiking. He spent many years camping at the beach with his family and then going north to South Newfane, VT. He enjoyed 40 years of summer and winter activities. Art always had a pet dog and his love was mutual with each animal he had.
Besides his wife Jean, he is survived by his children, Denise Dorflinger and her husband Russ of East Hampton, Paul Bonnier and his wife Sharon of Fair Oaks, CA, Jim Bonnier and his wife Marita of Manchester, NH and Christopher Bonnier of Cromwell; his infamous “nine” grandchildren, Ryan, Austin and his wife Caitlyn, Adam, Jake, Jason, Tyler, Charles, Nathan and Phil. The Funeral Liturgy will be held Friday (Dec. 6th) at 12:30 p.m. at St. Pius X Church, Westfield St., Middletown. Friends may call prior to the service on Friday from 11 to 12 p.m. at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St. Middletown. Burial with military honors will be at Pine Grove Cemetery.
