Davis, David, Ph.D. (Age 81) of Accokeek, Maryland.

Obituary

David Davis was born on Wednesday, August 10, 1932 in Miami, Florida to John Davis and Mazie (Coney) Davis.

His primary and secondary education was in the public school system of Miami, Florida. The family moved to Accokeek (Danville), Maryland where he completed his secondary education and graduated from Douglas High School in Upper Marlboro, Maryland in 1950. He furthered his education receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree at Morgan State College in Baltimore, Maryland in February 1955.

He was inducted into the United States Army, April 8, 1955 and was honorably discharged with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant, August 26, 1955. On September 14, 1955 he enlisted into the United States Air Force and served until he was honorably discharged on July 15, 1959. While serving in the armed forces David attended night school and a few years after he was discharged, August 1963 he received his Master’s Degree from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. David was so thirsty for education, he pursued his doctorate, receiving his degree from the University of California, Berkley in March of 1967.

While in the tenth grade at Douglas High School, he met Elizabeth Clagett and many years later, they would not only reunite but marry.

David had an extensive career with the Federal Government. He enjoyed his work in Research, in the Chemistry/Biology Lab at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. until his retirement. When he wasn’t working he kept up with world events especially in the area of science and he also enjoyed sports.

In addition to his parents and step-father, Marvin Worthy, he was preceded in death by his sister, Rita Braxton, step-son, James C. Lewis, sisters-in-law, Edna Mae Brown and Adele Avent and brother-in-law, Herman Avent.

On Saturday, November 30, 2013, at his residence in Accokeek, Maryland, David quietly slipped into eternity.

Left to cherish loving memories are: his beloved wife, Elizabeth C. Lewis-Davis; five children: Byron Davis, Lance Davis (Lisa), Joanne Queen (Shawn), John Davis (Jessica) and Eloise Davis; five granddaughters, two grandsons; four sisters, Johnnie M. Johnson, Marva Lee Worthy, Dorothy Green and Cherrie Lee (Garnell); one brother, Marvin R. Worthy (Patricia); step children, Ann Newman (Milton), Anthony Lewis, Thomas Lewis, George Lewis and Patrick Lewis (Desiree); sisters-in-law, Theresa Fox, Mary Branson and Veronica Graham (James), brothers-in-law, Anthony Clagett (Patricia), Joseph Clagett and Charles Clagett (Theresa) and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

His Viewing will be held from 4 to 7pm, Prayers, 5:30pm, Sunday, December 8, 2013 in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, Maryland 20640.

Mass of Christian Burial, 11am, Monday, December 9, 2013 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Piscataway, 13401 Piscataway Road, Clinton, Maryland 20735.

Interment, 2pm, Wednesday, December 11, 2013 Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, Maryland.
