William 'Rick' Gantes, 61, passed away November 30, 2013 at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, California.
He was born July 12, 1952, in Blythe, to Elizabeth and William Gantes.
Rick was the father of two children, Tina Marie Lusk and William Richard Gantes II. He was a local Bail bondsman for 29 years and type set for Weeks Printing for 10 years.
Rick was very active in the community as a Loyal Member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks for 27 years, Blythe Lodge #1799. During the years, Rick was the Exalted Ruler (1995/96), Elk of the Year, and Officer of the Year. Rick also served in many different positions at the Lodge; as past Trustee, Past Officer, Past Chaplin, and he was a part of various committees. Most recently he was serving as the Chairman of the Elks National Foundation and Chairman of the Lodge's Past Exalted Ruler's committee.
Rick had a very big heart and was always there to help and give advice. Failure was not an option for him or those he cared for. He mentored others and was generous with his time and his advice. The advice he gave most was, "Always have coins in your pockets."
Rick will be sorely missed by both his family and the Blythe community as a whole.
His friends were many, his enemies few. He was an encourager and never spoke a cross word.
Rick is survived by son, William Richard Gantes II; daughter, Tina Marie Lusk; sisters, Stephanie Halby, Alix 'Twink' Faulkner; six grandchildren, Kalyn and Amanda Lusk, Adam Warner Jr., Arron, Isaac and Elliot Gantes; and great grandchild, Christian Rivas.
He was preceded in death by sister, Elizabeth Anne Bradley.
Services for Rick are scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 7th, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Frye Chapel in Blythe. There will be a reception following the service at the Elks Lodge. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Elks National Foundation (ENF), BPOE 1799, 244 W. Hobsonway, Blythe, CA 92225.
