Robert Lee “Bob” Taylor, 86, of Shawnee, went to be with the Lord on November 29, 2013.
Bob was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma, on May 23, 1927 to the late Lillard and Myrtle Murphy Taylor. Bob graduated from Earlsboro High School and attended Neff’s Business College. He married Georgia Lee Barnes on April 1, 1949, and had been married 64 years. Along with his wife, they ranched in the South Rock Creek Community.
He was a member of the Shawnee Soil Conservation District; a member of Rock Creek Baptist Church, Shawnee; was on the Board of American Farmers and Ranchers Insurance. Bob raised Angus and Limousin cattle for many years and was a member of the Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association. He ran for Pottawatomie County Commissioner for District 2 and 3, in the 1960’s; Bob served in the United States Army in Germany as an Honor Guard in the Korean War.
Bob loved his ranch, raising cattle and his Mt. Dew! He enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren very much. He worked for Rock Island Rail Road in the 1940’s; he was a substitute postal carrier for Rural Route 3 in the 1950’s. Bob drove a cattle truck from Oklahoma and Texas in the late 1960’s. In the 1970’s he co-owned the Midget Market on N. Harrison Street and ran the ‘Bout New Car Lot on N. Harrison Street in Shawnee. He built several of his rent houses in Shawnee.
He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Brett Taylor; grandson, Kenneth Colvin; parents; sisters and brothers-in-law, Joann and Bob Peters and Carol and Jack Pappas; brother, Melvin Taylor; 2 infant brothers; and 1 infant sister.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Georgia Lee, of the home; his daughter, Cathy Colvin and husband David of Shawnee, OK; grandsons, Brett Taylor and wife Kalin of Midwest City, OK, Chris McBay and Stevie Mutz of Shawnee, OK; granddaughter, Catie McBay of Shawnee, OK; step-granddaughter, Heather Colvin of Seminole, OK; sister, Luetta White and brother-in-law, Larry of Shawnee, OK; great-grandchildren, Garrett Taylor and Easton McBay; step great-grandchildren, Hailey and Mayce Colvin; sisters-in-law, Linda Staal, Frances and Ernie Fialo, and Wanda Taylor; and a hosts of nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Bob was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be sorely missed.
Service will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at Rock Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Larry Sparks and Reverend Richard Zimmer officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
