Kay (Anderson) Jenks died Friday, November 29, 2013 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 75.
She was born on June 27, 1938 in Okemah, Oklahoma to A.J. and Pat (Whaley) Anderson. Kay lived in the Okemah-Paden area as a child. The family moved to Shawnee in 1953. She attended Shawnee High School, graduating in 1956. Kay married Carlisle Jenks on March 16, 1962 in Tecumseh, where they built their farm and raised their family.
She worked as a secretary at various businesses including Boyd’s Insurance, a typesetter at The County Wide News, and for the last 24 years Kay worked as the secretary-office manager at Tecumseh Veterinary Clinic.
She was active as a Camp Fire Girls leader, little league softball coach, a Tecumseh FFA Booster Club officer-member, involved with Friends of the Library, and active member of Tecumseh First Baptist Church. She enjoyed raising cattle, poultry, and goats. Kay served as the Pottawatomie County Fair Poultry Superintendent for the past 17 years. In May 2013 she was awarded the Honorary Oklahoma FFA Degree at the Oklahoma State FFA Convention. Kay was an avid scrap-booker, seamstress, gardener, and enjoy canning.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; parents-in-law, Carl and Arra Belle Jenks; brother-in-law, Bob J. Stringer; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Post; nephews, Neal Anderson and Nathan Cosby; special friend, Jack Reece.
Those who will cherish her memory are; son and daughter-in-law, J.W. “Bud” and Sharlene Jenks of Shawnee; a daughter and son-in-law Leslie and Paul Pope of Tecumseh; step daughter, Donna Jenks of Shawnee; brother and 2 sisters-in-law, Jack and Lana Anderson of Tecumseh, and Ozetta Stringer of Shawnee; sister and 2 brother-in-laws, Karen and Ferrell Fletcher of Shawnee and Jim Post of Shawnee; step mother-in-law, Dottie Anderson of Muskogee; uncle and aunt, J.P. and Janie Anderson of Choctaw; 6 grandchildren and spouses, Michael Jenks, Nicole and Julio Sanchez, Carl Jenks, Danielle and Matt Sisco, Nick Pope and Josh Pope; 2 step grandchildren, Curtis Abernathy and Brittany Abernathy; great-grandchildren, Madysen, Emilee and Haylee Jenks, Blakeley, Drake, Titus, Micah and Micailah Sanchez and Carli Sisco; special family friends, David and Chris Qualls; and many other extended family and friends.
Visitation will start 8:00 a.m., Monday, December 2, 2013 and continue through service time. Family gathering will be 5-7 p.m. Monday. Service will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at First Baptist Church of Tecumseh with Reverend Tony Peak officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
The family has designated The Tecumseh FFA Booster Club as appropriate for memorials.
