U.S. Veteran

WESTFIELD – Thomas H. Field, 66, of Westfield, died Thursday (Nov. 21, 2013) in Westfield Memorial Hospital. He was born June 4, 1947 in Dunkirk, NY, the son of the late Leonard W. and Florence Edington Field. Tom was a veteran serving in the US Air Force as a Master Sergeant, having served in Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam. He received the Air Force Commendation Medal, Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Air Force Overseas Long Tour Ribbon, US Air Force Combat Action Medal, Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. After his service for our country he worked at The Carriage House in Dunkirk. He was a life member of Lake Chautauqua Memorial VFW Post 8647 in Mayville, he also belong to the Patriot Guard Motorcycle Group. Tom was an avid motorcyclist, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, travel, and anything outdoors. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Mary DeGolier Field; three children, Jessica (Daniel) Lawton of Dothan, Alabama, Lacy (Steve) York, of Fayetteville, NC, and Shawn Field of Westfield; six grandchildren, Ruth, Sarah Joan, Benaiah, and Anna Lawton, Carson, and Willow York. He was preceded by his father on Oct. 25, 2004 and his mother on Dec. 31, 2006. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the First Baptist Church in Westfield. Rev. Thayne Bodenmiller will officiate. Burial will be in the Stockton Greenwood Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the Freay Funeral Home, Mayville.
