U.S. Veteran

George J. Carpenter returned peacefully home on November 20, 2013. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on March 27, 1926 to John Carpenter and Marie Gault Carpenter. Married to Enid Adele Ames March 7, 1946 in Salt Lake City. He was a veteran of WWII. Proudly served in the U.S. Navy on USS Manila Bay CVE 61 in the Pacific Fleet. George and Enid returned to Salt Lake City after a short time in Boston and began their family. He worked at Western Steel for over 30 years. Was Shop Steward, Secretary and President of Ironworkers Local 27. Dad was a lover of the outdoors. His favorite pastimes were camping, hunting and fishing with his family. "Fishy, Fishy in the brook come and land on grandpa's hook". He is now reunited with his loving wife and pets Ginger, Penny and Roscoe. He is survived by his five children Nancy Trusty, Dave(Vickie), Terry (Anne), Peggy Fitzgerald (David) and Janie Larson, all of Utah. 18 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 1 great great-grandson, sister Kathleen (David) Davis. Proceeded in death by his wife of 50 years Enid, three sisters and 2 great-grandchildren. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Tuesday November 26, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Broomhead Funeral Home located at 12590 South 2200 West Riverton, Utah 84065. Interment Lake Hills Cemetery, Sandy Utah.
