Benton J. Rose

Benton J. Rose, 61, passed away 11/20/13 in the presence of his loving family. He was born 11/19/52 to the late Joseph and Irma Rose in Mobile, Alabama.

He grew up in Fort Myers, FL., joined the Navy in 1971, and served his country actively for four years including a tour in Vietnam, and then served two years in the Navy reserves. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Ben relocated to Chesapeake, VA. and met the love of his life, Nancy. They wed in 1976, and from their union they had four children.

Benton joined the Chesapeake Police Dept. in 1981 and retired after 17 years of dedicated service. Ben adored his “Copper Rose” (fishing boat) and spent many hours working and fishing during his retirement. A true southern boy he enjoyed nature, animals, and was always the “life of the party”. Most of all, he was proud of his children and grandchildren. He truly loved and enjoyed spending time with them.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife and life partner of 37 years Nancy. Four children Joshua (Melonie), Jacob (Katie), Amanda, and Aaron; Three grandchildren, Eliana, Kadyn and Jordyn; Siblings Ginger (George), Karen (Scott), Toni (Mike), and Neal; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. A special thanks to all the staff at Sentara Heart Hospital, we could not have made it through this journey without you.

Visitation will be Friday, 11/22 from 6-8PM, funeral services will be Saturday 11/23 at 10AM. All services will be held at Woodlawn Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens. 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd. Norfolk VA 23502. Condolences may be left for the family at www.woodlawngroup.com.
