James

James “Boomer” Braithwaite was born in Reading, PA on August 27, 1936 to Harry and Grace Braithwaite. He retired from the Air Force after 20 years and 5 unaccompanied tours around the world. After retiring from the Air Force, he went back to school and received his college degree from Allen Hancock College. He then went to work for General Telephone Company and retired from Verizon after 20 years.

He was a member of American Legion Post 211, Moose Lodge 1036 and an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus. His great love was the Lompoc Elks Lodge. He was a past Exalted Rule and served as the Lodge Treasurer for several years, currently holding the position as Lodge Activities and Aid to Local Handicap Chairman.

His passion was Aid to Local Handicap Committee. For the past 26 years he was instrumental in putting on the Happy Happening at River Park for the physically and mentally challenged which was a day of fishing and family fun. He leaves behind his wife of 53 years, Bonnie; sons Thomas (Cindy), James (Robin) and Mark (Elisabeth); daughters Deborah (Chuck) and Joan (Robert) Montalvo; 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; his sister Joan (Zeig) Zeigler and numerous nieces and nephews and his beloved dog Miss Daisy. James was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Tom, his daughter Peggy and granddaughter Christina.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 22, 2013 at 11 am at the Starbuck-Lind Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow with Military Honors at the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Elks Lodge Aid to Local Handicap, 905 East Ocean Avenue in Lompoc.
