John Joseph Forte

Of Okemos

Born Dec. 13, 1942 in Lansing, the son of the late Joseph P. and Josephine M. (Novello) Forte, died Tuesday, November 19, 2013 in Lansing at age 70. John lived in the Lansing area all of his life and graduated from Lansing Eastern High School. He graduated from Ferris State University with his B.A. and earned his M.A. and PhD in Business Education from Michigan State University. John taught at Waverly High School for 30 years. After his retirement he was a professor and advisor at Michigan State University. John was an active member of St. Casimir Catholic Church and took great pride in singing with the choir. He also served as a lector. He was also a member of the Italian American Club of Lansing. John is survived by his twin sister, Rose Ann Cariano, 2 nieces: Cindy Cariano and Cathy (Mark) Taylor, great nieces and nephews: Courtney Cariano, Elaine Kelly, Jenna Kelly, Zachary Taylor and Brock Taylor, his aunt, Veta Souchek, uncle and aunt, Pete & Janet Forte and aunt Floramae "Ricky" Novello, many cousins and his beloved dog Polo. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:30AM at St. Casimir Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Bill Lugger as presider. Rite of committal will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery at 1:00PM. Immediately following the Mass, a luncheon will be served in the Holy Family Center. Visitation is Friday, 3-8PM at the church where the Vigil will be prayed at 7:30PM. Visitation continues Saturday at 9:30AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Casimir Catholic Church, Greater Lansing Food Bank, Lansing City Rescue Mission or St. Vincent Catholic Charities.
