Meryl Holsted, 88, of Tecumseh, Oklahoma passed away Friday, November 15, 2013 in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
He was born August 22, 1925 to Henry and Nellie (Lashley) Holsted in Morganville, Kansas.
Meryl was raised in Morganville, Kansas and graduated from Clay Center High School.
He proudly served his country during WWII in the U.S. Navy.
While working on highway construction in Oklahoma he met his future wife, Betty Shobe and they were married on September 4, 1979 in Wheeler, Texas. After marriage they lived in Liberal, Kansas until moving to Tecumseh in 1993 where they have resided since.
Meryl worked as a supervisor for Carlysle Asphalt Company and later as a foreman of the Street Department for the city of Liberal, Kansas. He enjoyed tinker and was able to work on and drive anything from a mover to a road grader. Meryl loved the outdoors, especially the mountains in Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Nellie Holsted; 1 brother; and 2 sisters.
Meryl is survived by his wife, Betty Holsted, of the home; daughter, Tina Holsted, of St. Petersburg, FL; sons, Scotty Holsted, of St. Petersburg, FL; step-daughter, Kim Moore, of Branson, MO; brother-in-law, Donald Shobe, of Oklahoma City, OK; 3 grandsons, Adam Salley, Alec Salley and Andrew Salley, of Branson, MO; granddaughter, Molley Salley; and many nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.
Visitation will begin 9:00 a.m., Thursday, November 21, 2013 and continue through service time. Service will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 22, 2013 at Sharon Baptist Church with Reverend Ron Walker officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
