James Anderson

U.S. Veteran

On Sunday, September 3, 1950 in Creston, South Carolina, James Harvey Anderson, affectionately known as “Sunny” was born to Frank Anderson and the late Mildred G. Anderson Douglas.

On Monday November 18, 2013 the almighty God in his infinite wisdom saw fit to receive our beloved into his arms. Sunny was preceded in death by his wife Sylvia B. Anderson, a son Douglas and a daughter Janeta.

Sunny became a member of St Paul AME Church at an early age. He was educated in the public schools of Calhoun County and was a 1969 graduate of St. John High School.

After such time he served in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1976. Later traveling on to New York, he pursued many endeavors. He received an Associate in Science degree and a degree in Human Behavior. He worked very hard for many years and retired from demolition and construction. Sunny returned home and renewed his faith at New Faith Community Church. He enjoyed fishing and watching football. He is probably the biggest New York Giants fan of all times. He loved having fun and fellowshipping with family and friends and was untiring in making sure he caught the heart of his grandchildren.

Sunny leaves to cherish his memories: four daughters Valerie Shivers-Burgess of Orangeburg, SC; Lisette Burwell Manhattan, New York, Tyisha Burwell Bronx, New York, and Juanita Glover of Harlem, New York; two sons James Anderson Jr. of Manhattan, New York and Clifton Howard of Harlem, New York; father Frank Anderson (Ruby Mae) of Harlem, NY, stepfather Harry Douglas (Helen) of Elloree, SC: five sisters Anna Johnson(Nelson) Elloree, SC, Arlene Bethea, Orangeburg, SC, Willie Dean Sherrod of Harlem, Frances Sherrod of Bronx, NY, and Virginia Buckmon of Columbia, SC; three brothers Donnel Douglas (Felicia) of Elloree, SC, Jerome Sherrod (LaTanya) of Richmond, Virginia and Tyrone Sherrod of Harlem, New York, two sister in laws and one brother in law and 14 beautiful grandchildren Douglas Jr., DaQuan, Diamone’, Sean, Nyah, Mason, Brianna, Amber, Eric, Taia-Monet, Theodore Jr., Sunnai, Clifton Jr., and VaCarie; one uncle James (Dorothy) Garrett, of Philadelphia, Penn, and one aunt Willie Mae Garrett of Elloree, SC, a host of caring and devoted nieces and nephews, and many other loving family and friends.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 pm on Friday, November 22, 2013 at St. Paul AME Church, Creston, SC with the Rev. Frankie White and Rev. Pamela M. Jacobs officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 12 Noon. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation at the funeral home will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2013 from 3:00 to 6:00 pm.

Friends may call at the residence of Nelson and Anna Johnson, 40 Pineland Trail, Elloree, and the funeral home.
