Leota M. Keith, 82, of Macon, MO, passed away on Monday, November 11, 2013, at her home in Macon.
Leota was born on January 28, 1931, in Leonard, MO, the daughter of Sarah E. (Jones) Thompson and Austin G. Thompson. She graduated from Shelbyville High School, Shelbyville, MO, in 1949. Leota attended Hannibal-LaGrange College and Kirksville State Teachers College. She taught school for several years.
Leota married Gilbert N. Keith on December 25, 1949. To this union four children were born. Debbie A. (Terry) Hinrichs of Marthasville, MO, Diana B. (Rick) Huse of Warrensburg, MO, Gilbert Van Keith of LaPlata, MO, and Austin G. (Tammie) Keith of Columbia, MO. There are four granddaughters and one grandson, four great-grandsons, two great-granddaughters, two step-grandsons, and one step-great-grandson.
Leota loved cooking, decorating cakes, gardening, flowers and crafts. Her family was always one of her great concerns plus their happiness. She valued her friendships and truly enjoyed keeping in touch. Leota was a member of Crossroads Christian Church in Macon.
Leota was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and two brothers, Rollin G. Thompson and David A. Thompson.
Funeral services will be Thursday, November 14, 2013, at 10:00 am at the Crossroads Christian Church in Macon. Burial will be in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, MO. Visitation will be from 5 pm to 7 pm, Wednesday evening, at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina, MO. Memorials are suggested to the Diabetes Association or the VFW.
