Ernest Edward (Ernie) Wilensky passed away November 7th, 2013 after an illness and brief stay at Community Hospice Hadlow Center. Born May 15th, 1924 in Brooklyn, New York He graduated high school and he later enlisted in the United States Army, Company B, 504th Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division. He served in the campaigns to liberate North Africa, Sicily, and Italy where he was wounded in action and awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for valor during action at Falerno. He was later honorable discharged in November 1943. After his discharge he returned to the United States, graduate from the University of Miami and began a long career in retail. He eventually moved to Knoxville, Tennessee where he met and married Louise Burket. They later moved to Cincinnati, Ohio then Akron, Ohio, finally settling in Jacksonville, Florida. Ernie then began his career with May Cohen’s of Jacksonville, where he served as manager of various Jacksonville stores. He retired from May Cohen’s to spend time with his family. Louise passed away April 24th, 2000, Ernie is survived by his daughter, Michele Register (Dean Bush), Canton, NY; granddaughters Margaret Bair (Thomas Bair) Palatka, FL, Kimberly Murray(Craig Murray) Albany, GA; Grandsons George Register, Switzerland, FL, Derek Igou (Francine Igou) St. Augustine, FL, Devin Igou (Fasha Igou), Santa Rosa Beach, FL, Damon Igou (Janice Igou) Montpelier, VA; twelve great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews who he loved dearly. Graveside services will be held at 11 AM Monday, November 11th, 2013 at Evergreen Cemetery, Jacksonville, Florida. Rabbi Robert Goodman will officiate with funeral services provided by Giddens-Reed Funeral Home, Baldwin, Florida. The family requests that donations to Community Hospice of North East Florida or the Jacksonville Beach VFW, who will be providing military honors, be made in lieu of flowers.
