Rodney (“Rod”) Bloom, born in Davenport, Iowa on August 25, 1933 to Fred and Zelma (nee: Gilbert) Bloom passed away on November 5, 2013. He attended Davenport public schools. After high school graduation, he served in the Army at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He was married to Mary Lou (nee: Jones) on October 3, 1952 in Davenport, Iowa. He attended St. Ambrose College in Davenport, Iowa and then graduated from the University of Iowa. He was a member of Beta Alpha Psi. Later he attended executive programs at the University of Michigan, Stanford University and Harvard University. He started his career as a certified public accountant with Ernst and Ernst in 1959. He later joined Nalco Chemical Company, a Fortune 500 company, where he served as chief financial officer. His business took him to England, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Japan, Taiwan and Mexico as well as several South American countries. He also served on the boards of the Greater Chicago United Way, Little Friends of Naperville and Millikin University. He retired in 1992 and spent many happy years as a Naples, Florida resident. Along with his wife of 61 years, he is survived by his son Robert and his wife Jill (Little Rock, Arkansas), Dean and his wife Kristi (Arlington Heights, Illinois), Lynne (“Hodgson”)and her husband Martin (London, England), Jeff (Denver, Colorado) and Cathy (“Bloedorn”) and her husband Jay (Western Springs, Illinois). He is also survived by his ten grandchildren Charlotte, Alex, Bethany, Sarah, Abby, Dominic, Matthew, Emily, Jack and Grant. He is survived by his sister, Joan Miller, along with many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Friday, November 8, 2013 from 4PM to 8PM at Leonard Memorial Home, 565 Duane Street, Glen Ellyn, Illinois (www.leonardmemorialhome.com). The funeral service will be held at Leonard Memorial Home at 11AM on Saturday, November 9, 2013.
