A home going celebration for Mrs. Phyllis M.J. Jackson Akes, affectionately known as Ms. P.J. to all her friends, who was called to God’s Kingdom on November, 5, 2013, will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the St. James A.M.E. Church, 5202 86th Street South, Tampa, Florida with the pastor Rev. Michael B. Price, officiating.
Mrs. Akes Jackson was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth B. Jackson, Sr.
She leaves her strength with passion for life, and love for the Lord with her husband, Robert Earl Akes, Jr.; her children, Victoria Barrett Salazar (Geraldo), Holmes Bruner (Yaskeka), Sean Adams, Dana Black, Devona Akes and Robert Akes; twenty grandchildren; several great grandchildren; her mother, Pauline Jackson; three sisters, Anita Jackson, Michelle Mason (Timothy) and Paula Rivers (Robert); one brother, Robert Jackson; a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, god children and a host of other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Akes was born in Camden, New Jersey to the parentage of Kenneth B. (Pauline) Jackson, Sr. Phyllis attended public schools in Alloway Township, New Jersey. She was a 1962 graduate from DuPont High School, New Castle, Delaware.
Phyllis was united in holy matrimony to Robert Earl Akes, Jr. on September 6, 1980 together they raised six children.
She enjoyed a long career of 38 years in the Veterans Health Administration, the Naval Hospital in Philadelphia and James A. Haley Veterans Medical Center in Tampa. She retired in April of 2010. Mrs. Akes was a dedicated member of St. James A.M.E. Church.
There will be a viewing on Friday, November 15, 2013 at the St. James A.M.E. Church from 5-8 p.m. and the family will receive friends there from 6-7 p.m.
The family request that attendees refrain from wearing black and wear your hats in dedication to Mrs. P.J.’s wishes.
