Gene A. Barrows

SPRINGFIELD – Gene A. Barrows, 76, a retired truck driver, passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2013 with his family by his side. He was born in Vergennes, VT on July 23, 1937, the son of the late Arthur Phillip and Margaret Emma (Smith) Barrows and has lived in Springfield for most of his life. Gene’s career spanned nearly forty years during which time he was employed by Martin Trucking for 13 years, Eastern Container for 20 years and other local transport companies. An avid fisherman Gene especially enjoyed sharing this experience with his grandchildren and to go bowling with family and friends. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by a brother, Richard E. Barrows and a sister, June M. Quinn. Gene is survived by his loving wife of nearly 54 years, Simonne A. (Duclos) Barrows, 4 sons, Gene A. Barrows, Jr. and his wife Linda of Faulkville, AL, Paul M. Barrows and his wife Lauri of Belchertown and Richard L. Barrows and his wife Susan and Joseph A. Barrows and his fiancee Danielle, all of Springfield, a daughter, Linda Ann Sanford of Foley, AL, 12 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and a sister, Doris L. Delorge of West Springfield. Family and friends are invited to gather for the celebration of the Funeral Mass being offered at Holy Name Parish in the former Assumption Church, 94 Springfield St., Chicopee at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2013. In lieu of flowers, please direct memorial contributions in Gene’s name to the Thomas J. O’Connor Foundation, 627 Cottage St., Springfield, MA, 01104. The Corridan Funeral Home, 333 Springfield St., Chicopee, MA is in charge of the arrangements.
