Henry I. Reeves of Middletown, DE formerly of West Deptford NJ, died suddenly at home on Monday October 28, 2013. Henry (Hank, H.I.) was born and spent his formative years in Osborne, SC; son of Wade Hampton and Vivian Reeves.
After graduating high school he attended Clemson University where he played football and baseball. He then entered into military service with the United States Coast Guard and specialized in search and rescue missions. Upon honorable discharge from the Coast Guard, Henry relocated to Bellmawr, NJ and joined the Roofer’s Union, Local 30.
While working for DuRoss Roofing, Henry met the love of his life, Lorraine and they were married in 1969. After the birth of his two children, Tim and Kerry, Henry relocated the family to West Deptford where he lived for the next 27 years. After 35 years as a roofer, Henry retired in 1995 and he and Lorraine once again moved and settled in Middletown DE in the spring of 1999. Anywhere that Henry went, he was quick to make friends. At first sight he was a large imposing man, but to meet him was to know him, and to know him meant that you were guaranteed a friend for life. He bestowed boundless love and generosity to his friends and family in the form of time, wisdom and home cooked meals. If you left his home hungry, you had only yourself to blame.
Henry was a great man. He loved to fish, enjoyed being outside gardening, listening to blues music, driving his trucks fast and spoiling the many dogs that had the good fortune to grace his presence. Recently he joined the Shrewsbury Parish in 2012 and enjoyed the hospitality of the Parish members who soon became his friends.
Henry is survived by his wife Lorraine, son Tim, daughter Kerry, daughter-in-law Nancy, Son-in-laws Jason and Andrew and grandchildren Madison, Caitlin and Collin.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 2, 11am at Daniels & Hutchinson Funeral Home, Middletown, DE.
