Passed away quietly in his home, October 25, 2013 in Redding.
Preceded in death by his parents Edward and Mary, Brother James, Sister Betty and wife, Shirley.
Survived by his second wife, Helen, Sister Lola (Wayne) of Gardnerville, NV and Velda of Corning CA. Sons Shannon (Glenda) of Palo Cedro, and Kevin (Lynne) of Redding. 5 Grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; 2 step grandsons and 10 step grandchildren.
He joined the Army and served in Europe during World War II.
He was born in Hood River OR. His Family moved to Riverton, WY, then Bieber, to Redding, then to Red Bluff CA where he graduated from Red Bluff High School. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but his real joy was playing the piano which he did for most of his life for family and dances in the 3B's Band.
After getting out of the service in 1947, he married Shirley Aldridge. They were married for 58 years until her death in 2005. He worked in the Montgomery Mill in Shingletown. He then went to work driving logging truck for Harry Abbott, logged with his Brother Jim, after that he worked for Sutter Brothers logging, where he set chokers, fell timber and skinned cat. In 1960 the family moved to Enterprise and he owned Bob's Equipment Rental. He did small engine repair and could make any engine run and also sold real estate for a short time before managing Bliss Power Lawn Equipment, where he retired in 1988. He could not be idle, so he worked for his son, Shannon building and repairing equipment for his bee business until 2003.
Bob was a member of Redding Musicians Union, Millville Rebekah Lodge #3, and a 65 year member of Millville IOOF Lodge and a Grand Lodge Officer twice. He help start and was an advisor for the Lassen Volcanic Junior Lodge.
He also enjoyed being a member of the Road Runner RV Club, Dance for Fun Dance Club, North State Ramblers Jazz Band.
Viewing will be Thursday afternoon 1 pm to 5 pm. Services will be Friday at 11 am at Allen and Dahl Funeral Chapel in Palo Cedro, reception following at the Millville IOOF Hall on Silverlode off of Silver Bridge Road and Hwy 44 in Palo Cedro.
