Delmer Clifford Alford, 87, of Suwannee, Fla., formerly of Milledgeville, died Friday, May 16, 2008 at a Gainesville, Fla., nursing home. Memorial services will be held at 6:00 PM Saturday May 31, 2008 at First Christian Church with Rev. Jim Nipper officiating.
A native of Washington County, Ga., he was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served on the USS Missouri. He had worked at Griffin Pipe Products and Georgia Power. He was a co-owner of the Amoco service station on Wayne Street in Milledgeville. He was a founding member of First Christian Church in Milledgeville and a member of Hardwick Christian Church. After retirement, he moved to Suwannee, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Babb Alford and his grandson, Lawrence Clifford (Cliff) Alford.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Linda Alford, Clarksville, Tenn., and Gary and Deborah Alford, Martinez, Ga.; his daughter, Lunelle Kelly, Warner Robins, Ga.; four grandchildren and their spouses, John Kelly, Albany, Ga., Mark C. Kelly, Gainesville, Ga., Danny and Jennifer Alford, Clarksville, Tenn., and Michelle and Mark Cochran, Rome, Ga.; and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service.
