Janyce Ann Walsh was born to the loving parents of Odis and Mary (Watts) Walsh in Malvern, Arkansas on February 15, 1949. She attended public school in Malvern and in Houston, Texas and graduated in 1967 from Jack A. Yates High School in Houston. Though she finished in Houston, she was a beloved member of the Class of 1967 from A.A. Wilson High School. Janyce continued her education at Henderson State University (then Henderson State College) and received an Associates of Science Degree in Business Administration from the College of the Ouachitas.
Early in life, Janyce accepted Christ as her personal savior, united in membership, and was baptized at West Side Church of God in Christ by Reverend Nathaniel Sanders.
On August 29, 1969, Janyce married her high school sweetheart, Cal Gene Butler. One child, Kenneth Edward Butler was born to this union on April 11, 1970.
Janyce was employed at the College of the Ouachitas (formerly Ouachita Vocational Technical School) and retired after 29 years of service in 2003. Due to her genius love of people, especially children, Janyce left retirement, and begin helping a new generation of scholars as a teacher’s assistant at Malvern Head-Start School until 2008.
Janyce lived briefly in Houston, Texas and Los Angeles, California, but Malvern was always home. She was known for her outgoing personality, sharp intellect, and her ability to relate to people from all walks of life. Also, she was known for her cooking, especially her signature ice cream cake. Janyce was loved by family and a multitude of friends, associates, co-workers, and neighbors. She will be missed and remembered for years to come.
Janyce was preceded in death by both parents, three brothers; Walter Allen (Buck), Ed Willie, and William Edward Walsh; and two sisters, Mae Willie “Judy” and Juanita Walsh, and one special nephew that she helped raise, William Anthony Matlock. She leaves in bereavement one son, Kenneth (Ivonne), one brother Theodis (Mushinah) Walsh El-Amin, one sister, Florence Darlene Pierce; one sister-in-law Patricia Walsh of Houston, Texas two grandchildren, Kenneth Edward Jr. and Kyle Elijah Butler, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Friday November 1, 2013 at 11:00 am in Mt Zion Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Orlando Freeman Officiating and Rev. Dr. J. N. McCollum pastor of First Missionary Baptist Church Rockport Eulogist. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery Malvern with services provided by Brandon’s Mortuary, Inc. Visitation will be Thursday October 31, 2013 from 4 until 6 PM in the chapel of Brandon’s Mortuary, Inc.
