Lawrence”Larry”Joseph Purcell,81,of Belvidere passed away Saturday October 26,2013 at Homebridge Center,Belvidere. He was born January 29,1932 in Albany Township,Green County,Wisconsin the son of Veril Patterson and Teresa Purcell. He graduated from Argyle High School in Argyle,Wi. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1950-1954,during the Korean Conflict on the aircraft carrier USS Roosevelt,Flight Squadron 14,FASRON 9. A Belvidere resident since 1966.
Larry worked at NoDak Co. in S. Beloit for ten years,then worked as an inspector for Chrysler Corp. in Belvidere for 29 years until his retirement in 1994. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church,Belvidere and served as an usher for many years. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Belvidere Council #735,a Past Grand Knight,member of 4th Degree Bishop Muldoon Assembly 190,4th Degree Honor Guard,the John Paul Degree Team and was a Pilot in the 4th Degree. Also a past member of U.A.W. #1268 and a member of U.A.W. #1268 Retirement Chapter,a past member of the Eagles Club in Monroe,Wi. Lifetime member of V.F.W. John Hugo Kaiser Post #1461 and American Legion Boone Post#77.
Larry enjoyed serving with the Knights of Columbus, taking care of his Yorkies and reading about history. Larry always said,”as appreciative as I am of Women I never found I was so appreciative as to marry.”Survivors include his brother, Leo(Bea)Patterson,Juda,Wi. Sisters in law,Suzanne Patterson,Stoughton,Wi. and Sylvia Purcell,New Glarus,Wi. Brother in law,Richard Keller,Mt. Horeb,Wi. and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents,sister,Lois Keller,brothers,Joseph,Tomas and James.
Mass of Christian Burial Saturday November 2,2013 at 10:30 a.m. in St. James Catholic Church with Rev. Brian A. Geary,pastor officiating. Interment Calvary Catholic Cemetery,Argyle,Wi. Visitation Friday at Belvidere Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Memorials to OSF Hospice,Rockford,Il.
