Mr. Les Hanak, age 94, of Brookport, IL, formerly of Ronkonkoma, NY, passed away on Wednesday evening October 23, 2013 at Southgate Health Care Center.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at the Aikins Farmer Brookport Chapel. Tim Pearcy will officiate.
Les was a manager of the Ronkonkoma Pirates baseball team for 25 years, a charter member of Lakeland Volunteer Fire Department since 1938, serving as treasurer and secretary of the fire department, and a WWII Army Veteran. Mr. Hanak retired from Grumman Aircraft, working on the F-14 from conception to finish, built his own home, and kept a large garden most of his life.
Les is survived by his wife Emma of 71 years; children, Leslie Hanak and wife Nancy of Woodstock, Georgia, Sharon Nelson and husband John of Calvert City, KY, and Andrea Douglas and husband David of Brookport; daughter-in-law, Maria Hanak of Myrtle Beach, FL; 7 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Rudolph Hanak and wife Joyce of Holbrook, Long Island, New York; 1 sister, Wilma Jursicik and husband Ted of Boca Raton, FL; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Mary Hanak; 4 brothers, Andrew, Arthur, Alfred, and Edward Hanak; 1 son, Ted Hanak.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 26, at the Aikins Farmer Brookport Chapel.
