Lt. Col. Delbert C. Burgess, (USAF ret) age 91 of Stagecoach, Texas died October 16, 2013. He was born April 29, 1922 in Brown City to John and Pearl (Greer) Burgess. He married Wilma (Scriber) Burgess on Nov. 1, 1941. After working for Ford Motor Company Delbert joined the Air Force in 1943. He became a bomber pilot and flight instructor and returned home and worked for Betchel Car Hauling. He became instrumental in the start of the Yale and Marlette airports. Delbert was recalled to the Air Force in 1951 during the Korean Conflict where he he flew his flew C-124 Globemaster the rest of his career. He retired April 1, 1970 and in 1971 worked for the Federal Aviation Administration and then the Bureau of Customs until re-retiring in 1990. Survived by his daughter Sandra Lee Burgess, Stagecoach , Texas and granddaughter Heather (Leystra) Elmore, great grandson Matthew Lee Elmore, brothers James Burgess and wife Veronica, Jack Burgess and wife Shirley and a sister Dorma Brennan.. Preceded by wife Wilma and daughter Norma Leystra Gilpatrick, and brothers and sisters I.R. Burgess and his wife Velma, Marvin Burgess and his wife Ruby, Doris Clink and husband Hollis, Deloris Irish Renshaw and husbands Loren Irish and Eugene Renshaw, brother in law Robert Brennan. A gathering and viewing was held at Carman Funeral Home on Friday October 25 and 26, 2013. Funeral services were Sunday October 27, 2013 and 1:00 p.m. at Carman Funeral Home.
