James David

James David “Jack” Weems, age 94, of Clarence, MO, passed away on Thursday, October17, 2013. He was born on June 1, 1919, in Shelbyville, MO, the son of Joseph Arthur “Arch” Weems and Bathsheba Goe Weems. On December 14, 1940, he was united in marriage to Jean White at Shelbina, MO. She survives. Jack is also survived by three children, Charlotte Collins and husband Danny of Clarence, MO, Cathi Maupin of Clarence, MO and Carol Weems-Toms and husband John of Bevier, MO; six grandchildren, Danette Collins, Kerry Maupin, Jay Collins and wife Michele, Chuck Collins and wife Jeanne, Joe Maupin and wife Jamie and Drew Kerns; two step-grandchildren, Jared and Erin Toms; and eight great-grandchildren, Olivia and McKenzie Maupin,Reese and Jessa Maupin, Cole and Carly Collins, Morgan and Camryn Collins and one step-great-grandchild; Landon Truitt. He is also survived by one cousin, Marge Weems Williams. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ed Weems and one son, Jimmie Weems. Jack was a member of the Church of God (Holiness) in Macon, MO. He was baptized in the Mediterranean Sea. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II as sergeant and tank commander of the 753rd Tank Battalion attached to the Seventh Army in France, Italy, Germany, Africa and Austria. He was honored with the purple heart and bronze star. He was co-owner of White Mule Oil Company with his father for eighteen years before becoming a grain and livestock farmer in 1952. Jack loved the Lord, his family, his cattle, farming and the Clarence Community.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, on Monday, October 21, 2013, at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Clarence, MO, with military honors and burial to follow at the Maplewood Cemetery in Clarence. Visitation will be held at the Funeral Home in Clarence on Sunday, October 20, 2013, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Memorials may be made to the Clarence Care Center.
