Gerald E. Collins, 78

Gerald Eugene Collins, 78, a resident of Harrisonburg, passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Collins was born on April 8, 1935 in Glen Echo, Maryland and was the son of the late William T. and Ellen F. Sullivan Collins. He retired from Adam’s Construction and had previously worked for Trowbridge Steel Company in Herndon, Virginia. He was an avid outdoorsmen loving to hunt, fish and spending time in the mountains. He was a proud Harley Davidson owner. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father grandfather and great grandfather. On April 8, 1961, he married the former Elma Turner who survives. Also surviving are his children, Jeff Collins and wife Debbie of Singers Glen; John Collins and companion Linda Botkins of Timberville; Sharon Dove and husband Randy of Harrisonburg; Geri Crawford and husband Bobby of Elkton; a brother, William “Tommy” Collins of Dayton; a sister, Maryann Sullivan of Leesburg; grandchildren, Jason Collins and wife Canessa; Johnathan “Johnboy” Collins and wife Amelia; Jessica Conrad and husband Steve; Chase Collins, Alex Ewing, Brad Ewing, Kacey Ewing, Jeremy Long and companion Andi Poff; Amber Hottinger and husband Ricky; great grandchildren, Ty and Nash Collins, Nathaniel and Makaleigh Collins, Morgan, Tucker, and Allison Poff, Brooklyn and Ricky Hottinger; and a special pal, his Pekingese dog, “Jack”. Mr. Collins was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia McCauley and a sister-in-law, Faye Collins. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m at the McMullen Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. At his request, the body was cremated. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 1131 Mamaroneck Avenue, Suite 310, White Plains, NY 10605.
