Wilbur J. Hickman

U.S. Veteran

Died suddenly Sunday, October 13, 2013 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. He was born May 25, 1918, in Ypsilanti, Michigan, the son of Arlie and Rachel (Wilbur) Hickman. On July 9, 1948, he married Elizabeth “Liz” M. Roe in Ypsilanti and she preceded him in death on August 3, 2012. Mr. Hickman was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army where he served during W.W.II. After 45 years of employment, he retired from Ford Motor Co. He was a lifetime member of the Loyal Order of the Moose #782, where he reached the Degree of Fellowship. Mr. Hickman will always be remembered for his love of woodworking, bowling and dancing. Survivors include two sons: Robert (Linda) Roe and Craig (Claudia) Hickman; seven grandchildren: Robert Roe, Jeannette (Richard) Porter, Heather (Keith) Robertson, Jamie Roe, Meghan Hickman, Sarah Hickman and Kaitlyn Hickman; several great grandchildren; one sister, Leona Kramer; two brothers: Jay (Duann) Hickman and Jerry Hickman; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Madeline Black and two brothers: Bob and Bill Hickman. Funeral service will be held Friday, October 18, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Janowiak Funeral Home with Pastor Clyde Johnson of North Prospect Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Contributions in his memory may be made to Alzheimer’s Research. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
