Rudolph "Rudy" Valentino Fantin, 83, of Rock Springs, Wyoming passed away on Friday, October 11, 2013 in Sandy, Utah. His granddaughter Spring was by his side. A longtime resident of Rock Springs, Wyoming and former resident of Green River, Wyoming, Mr. Fantin passed away following a brief illness. He was born on September 10, 1930 in Perdoni, Colorado, the son of the late John Fantin and Adelina Pasin Fantin. Mr. Fantin attended schools in Rock Springs, Wyoming and graduated from Rock Springs High School with the Class of 1950. He married Mary Lou Ira December 26, 1950 and together they had six children, but later divorced. He later married Barbara Randall August 26, 1977 and they also divorced. Mr. Fantin served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a compressor mechanic for Union Pacific Resources, now known as Anadarko until his retirement in 1995. Mr. Fantin was a member of the Eagles Fraternal Order No. 151 in Rock Springs, Wyoming. His interests included cooking, fishing, gambling trips to Wendover, Nevada, listening to country music and watching old western movies. He loved spending time with and talking about his grandchildren and great-grandchildren Hope, Holly, Sam, and Cruz . Survivors include three sons Robin Fantin and wife Cyndi of Green River, Wyoming, Richard Fantin of Delta, Colorado and former wife Kelly Fantin of Rock Springs, Wyoming and Randy Fantin and wife Audrey of Delta, Colorado; three step-children Laurie Bierce of Viola, Idaho, Darren Ward of Stevenson, Washington and Belinda Ward of Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada; twenty-six grandchildren including Spring Hunt who was his primary care giver of Green River, Wyoming; thirty-four great-grandchildren including Hope and Holly Hunt of Green River, Wyoming and Sam and Cruz Snyder of Rock Springs, Wyoming and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons Rudy “Dave” Fantin and Rodney Fantin; one daughter Valerie Peterson; one grandson Pete Peterson; one brother John “Chuck” Fantin, one sister Mary Heikes and husband Barry Heikes;. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, October 17, 2013 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 900 Hitching Post Drive, Green River, Wyoming. A vigil service with rosary will be recited at 6:00 P.M. Wednesday at the church. Military Honors and Interment will be in the Rock Springs Municipal Cemetery in Rock Springs, Wyoming. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday, one hour prior to the rosary and on Thursday morning at the church until time of services.
