Rudolph (Rudy) Alonzo Hearn, Minister

Chatham…..Rudolph (Rudy) Alonzo Hearn, Minister, age 86 of 641 Piney Road, Chatham died Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at Chatham Health and Rehab Center. Born March 11, 1927 in St. Cloud, FL, he was a son of the late Walter Hearn and Katie Prather Hearn. He was predeceased by two brothers, Howard Hearn and Fred Hearn; and a sister, Alvydean McBurney. Mr. Hearn was an Army Veteran of World War II having served in the 82nd Airborne. He was Minister for over 50 years having served at Greenbay Christian Church for over 30 years. Mr. Hearn was a member of the American Legion Post 232, and a former member of the Climax Ruritan Club. He and his wife Jeanne received the citizens of the year award in 2003 by the Gretna Merchants Association. Mr. Hearn was involved in Special Olympics and in 2003 received the Humanitarian of the year award. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Love Hearn of the residence; three sons, Warren (Buddy) Hearn and his wife, Debbie of Chatham, Grant Hearn and his wife, Karen of Chatham, and Jerry Oliver and his wife, Marita of Fredericksburg; three daughters, Cheryl Lindsay and her husband, Delaws of Bloomfield, NM, Amy Kendrick and her husband, Butch of Chatham, and Jacqueline Nelson of Danville; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a special nephew, Jonathan McBurney and his wife, Tish of FL. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Saturday, October 12, 2013 at Sheva Church of Christ by Chris Stanley, Minister, and Bob Paddock, Minister. Burial with Military Honors by the Virginia National Guard Honor Guard will follow in Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Friday, October 11, 2013 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Northern Pittsylvania County Food Center, P.O.
