Charles A. Peterson, 81, of Spring Valley, passed away at 1:06 AM on Tuesday, October 08, 2013, at Manor Court of Peru, after a valiant two year battle with liver cancer.

A memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, Wednesday, October 9, at the Barto Funeral Home, Spring Valley. Burial will be held at Valley Memorial Park at a later date.

Mr. Peterson was born on August 24, 1932 in Spring Valley, IL to Carl and Alma (Lust) Peterson. He attended Spring Valley grade schools and graduated from Hall High School in 1950. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Germany from 1950-1953.

He married Sharon Pikul at St. Hyacinth’s Catholic Church in LaSalle on November 19, 1955. Mr. Peterson was employed by LTV Steel in Hennepin until his retirement in 1992. He enjoyed fishing with his family, vacationing in Florida, going to breakfast with the guys on Thursdays, and watching the Chicago Bears and Cubs.

Mr. Peterson is survived by his wife, Sharon; two daughters, Carleen (Don) Bergandi of Ladd, and Sharlene Peterson of Wheaton; two grandsons, Mark (Sheryl) Bergandi of Granville, and Matthew (Narissa) Bergandi of Ladd; a brother, Albert Peterson, of Standard; and two sisters, Dorothy Peterson Nieslawski of Florida, and Karen (Ralph) Derango of Swansea, IL; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and his special little buddy, Brock Pikul.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
