Robert P. Barrows, 77, of Alanson, passed away Friday, October 4, 2013. Bob was born April 20, 1936, in Detroit. He was the son of Wesley and Mary (Sexton) Barrows. Bob grew up in Dearborn. In 1954 at the age of 18, he was drafted into the United States Army and served 26 years, which included four tours in Germany. He retired from the military in 1981. After retirement he worked at Blarney Castle and Trout Creek. He married Aurelia "Rae" (Ramsby) Barrows on January 1, 1986. He was a member of the VFW post in Indian River. Bob enjoyed dancing, camping, working in his pole barn, and hunting with his son in the UP. He is survived by his wife Rae; children, Mark (Deb) Barrows of Ramsey, MN, Cheri (Mike) Dunn of Gaylord, MI, daughter Mellissa Cadotte of Cheboygan, MI, Maria Ross of New Jersey; sister Elaine Hanner of Livonia, MI, Cindy August of Alanson, MI; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother. A Graveside service will be held at the Littlefield Township Cemetery in Alanson on Tuesday, October 8th at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation can be made to Hospice of Little Traverse Bay or The American Cancer Society. Arrangements were handled by Charles G. Parks Funeral Home in Petoskey, MI.
