LtCol. James McDonald Orr, U.S. Army Ret, age 80 of Huntsville, passed away September 20, 2013 in Atlanta, Georgia surrounded by his loving family.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Kathryn “Wana” Orr; children: Jay Orr (Karen) of Seattle, WA, Kathy Ramminger (Jeff) of Milton, GA, Alison Ibarguen of Milton, GA, and Andy Orr (Lori) of Jeffersonton, VA; 9 grandchildren; James (Rebecca), Jenifer, Stephen (Elizabeth), Kally, Allison (Aaron), Andy, Cristina, Haley, and Kacey; 4 great-grandchildren; Marley, Jimi, Ryan and Cecilia, and his brother Stanley Orr (Pris) of Seattle, WA.
LtCol. Orr was a graduate of Wheaton College and received a master’s degree from Tulane University. He was a career Army Officer of 23 years including tours in Germany, Vietnam and Thailand. His awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, and Army Commendation Medal. After military retirement he taught accounting and economics at Calhoun Community College.
He was an avid railroad fan and a talented leather carver. LtCol. Orr was a faithful Christian who supported missions around the world, and was a member of First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ.
Services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery where LtCol. Orr will be interred. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to First Christian Church, Disciples of Huntsville or the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS, 66675.
