John A. “Jack” Condon age 92, husband of the late Ruth A. (Crowdis) Condon of Salem died in the Kaplan Family Hospice House Danvers, following a brief illness.

Born in Salem the son of the late Albert and (Gertrude (Rooney) he was educated at St. Mary’s elementary school in Salem. Mr. Condon then graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Lynn in the Class of 1939, worked for the former Munroe and Arnold Merritt Express and became a licensed electrician. At the outbreak of World War II, he joined the United States Navy and was stationed aboard the USS Denebola, AD 12 a supply and repair ship in the Atlantic Theater of operations from 1940 to 1946.

Following his discharge, Mr. Condon returned to his electrician’s career earning the title of Master Electrician. In 1960 he was appointed by then Mayor Sam Zoll as the City of Salem Wire Inspector, a position he held until his retirement in 1984.

Dedicated to his family and church, he enjoyed his many friends and being a member of the Knights of Columbus Leo Council in Peabody.

He is survived by three children, Shirley Marescalchi and her husband Richard of Salem, Maralyn Windsor and her husband Robert of Peabody, and Ann Marie Jangro and her husband Donald of Sandown, NH; a sister Louise Lauzon of Lynnfield; eight grandchildren, Christine, Pamela, Paul, Lisa, Jason, Jeremy, Jonathan, and Kimberly and many great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Marie Josephson.

His funeral will be held on Friday, September, 27, 2013 at 9:15 AM from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St, (corner of North St) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at the Immaculate Conception Church, 15 Hawthorne Blvd, Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Thursday from 3:00PM to 7:00PM in the Murphy Funeral Home. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salem Children’s Charity, 1 Frederick St, Salem, MA 01970 or to Hospice of the North Shore and Greater Boston, 75 Sylvan St, Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
