Carol Jean (Danhoff) DeWolf

Carol (64) passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, September 18th surrounded by loved ones at the Hospice House of Mid-Michigan following a courageous eleven month battle with cancer.

Born on the east side of Detroit, Carol moved to Lansing in 1976 with her husband, Paul and their only child, Carrie (DeWolf) Hebert. At the age of 41 she became a widow. Carol remained in the house they shared and always took loving care both inside and out.

Carol worked at Sparrow Hospital/St. Lawrence Campus for 35 years in the Environmental Services Department. As her “other family” at this facility will attest, Carol was consistently known as an industrious worker who was kind and compassionate with all employees. She was never known to utter an unkind word about anyone.

Gardening, reading, sewing, traveling and spending time with her family and friends enriched Carol’s soul. Her daughter Carrie (Lance Hebert) and their dog, Yukon Gold were the highlight of her life.

Carol was a simple, caring woman who always put others’ needs and worries before her own. Despite the ravages of disease, she did not allow it to take center stage; rather, she chose to live the highest quality life in that period. Carol treasured sharing that time with her daughter (and fierce patient advocate) in either of her two homes: North Carolina or Lansing. She embraced the love and support from family and friends near and wide.

In the journey of life, Carol will be remembered by her simple, sweet acts of kindness. Her daughter would like to recognize the support and guidance that eased their burden this past year: Dr. Srkalovic, Sparrow Oncology and his nurse, Lisa Pease, Resource Manager for Physicians Health Plan, Cindy Vincent, RN and the UNC Chapel Hill Cancer Center. Carrie would also like to recognize the Director of Hospice House of Mid-Michigan, Michelle Wiseman and her staff, especially the loving care rendered by Karen Suchek, RN in addition to the ongoing love and care of all her family and friends. A celebration of Carol’s life will be held at the:

Crown Plaza Hotel (formerly Lexington Hotel) 925 S. Creyts Road Lansing, MI 48917 (517) 323-7100 or (877) 322-5544 November 10, 2013 at 12:00

In lieu of flowers, the family would like any contributions to be made to: Sparrow Hospice Services 1210 W. Saginaw Lansing, MI 48915 "In loving memory of Carol DeWolf"

“We will never be the same as we were before this loss, but we are ever so much better for having someone so great to lose.”
